What Can and Can Not Eat With Dental Implants

Dental implants are a wonderful thing. You can get your ability to smile back, and your teeth will look as good as new. However, after dental implants surgery, you need to take special care of them so that they will last for many years to come.

I will list foods that you can eat, then I will delve deeper into foods that you cannot so you will have a good understanding of what to eat and not eat after your surgery.

Soon, you will be eating the foods that are just right for you and your teeth, and you won't have to worry about bringing any unnecessary harm to your implants.

What to Eat

Here is a list of some of the foods that you can eat with dental implants after surgery:

  • Soup (Try to avoid highly acidic soups, however, such as tomato.)
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Bread
  • Yogurt
  • Applesauce
  • Oatmeal
  • Pasta
  • Any soft foods that are not too acidic or sugary

What Not to Eat and Why

Sticky Candies

Sugary and sticky candies such as caramel can adhere to your implants and potentially loosen or damage them. They are also hard, so they can hurt your mouth and damage your implants if you are not careful. Foods high in sugar also promote the growth of harmful bacteria that can spread decay throughout your mouth. Indulge sparingly in softer sweets such as cake, but try not to eat these too often.

Hard Fruits

Hard fruits such as apples are to be avoided, especially in the months right after you get your dental implants. They can make your mouth sore and damage your dental implants if eaten.

Chips

Chips can harm your implants with their crunchy texture, and the crumbs can also get stuck in your implants and cause discomfort and potential decay if they are not cleaned out properly.

Hard Tacos

It is best to stick with softer tacos and burritos to satisfy your taste for Mexican cuisine. Hard taco shells can hurt your mouth and implants, and the crumbs can get harmful, similarly to chips.

Hard Vegetables

Veggies such as carrots can wreak havoc on dental implants with their hard texture, much like the hard fruits I've mentioned.

Tough Meat

Particularly chewy meats such as steaks are not a good idea when you have dental implants. It will cause your mouth to become sore and put unnecessary strain on your implants.

In Conclusion

While there is a limit on what you can eat after getting dental implants, there is no need to worry!

You can still eat good food as long as you choose the right types to eat. Just because you can't eat the foods listed above, there are still many great options!

Cherish your smile and fill your belly with healthy and approved foods, and you will be happy and safe for years to come!
