This guide outlines the basic procedures, how often they're covered, and any limits to consider when scheduling an appointment.

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is being implemented gradually. If you're aged 65 or older, or have children under 18, you can apply now.

To complete the application, gather the following information for each applicant and your spouse or common-law partner (if applicable):

Income lower than $70,000
100% coverage on all CDCP fees.
No Co-payment is required.

Income $70,000 to $79,999
60% coverage on all CDCP fees.
40% Co-payment required.

Income $80.000 to 89,999
40% coverage on all CDCP fees.
60% Co-payment required.

Sometimes, you may have to pay part of the cost for a dental procedure. This depends on the government's coverage, which is based on your income.

Procedures Frequencies

BOOK ONLINE

Examinations

Up to 3 exams in any 12 months (excluding emergency examinations).
First Dental Visit Orientation: Up to the age of three (3) inclusive, 1 in a lifetime.
Complete Oral Examination and Diagnosis: 1 in any 60 months.
Recall Examination: 1 in any 12 months.
Specific Examination: 1 in any 12 months.
Emergency Examination: As needed.

X-rays

Intraoral Radiographs, Complete series: 1 in any 60 months.
Intraoral Radiographs (1-8 images): 8 in any 12 months.
Panoramic Radiographs: 1 in any 60 months; Up to 3 in a lifetime.

Dental Cleaning:

Age 0 to 11: ½ scaling unit in any 12 months;
Age 12 to 16: 1 scaling unit in any 12 months;
Age 17+: 4 scaling units in any 12 months in combination with root planing;
Preauthorization is required for additional scaling units.

Fluoride:

Age 0 to 16: 1 in any 6 months;
Age 17+: 1 in any 12 months.

Polishing:

½ unit in any 12 months.
